VOLspeed V4 Tuning Module for Bosch Active / Performance / Performance Line CX

VOLspeed V4 e-bike tuning module for Bosch Active Line, Active Line Plus, Performance Line and Performance Line CX drive systems. Designed for compatible Bosch e-bike systems from model year 2014, the VOLspeed V4 allows the motor assistance speed limit to be individually adjusted between 25 and 45 km/h.

The module is installed directly at the Bosch drive unit and can be controlled using the existing buttons on the e-bike. No smartphone, computer or separate programming device is required for normal operation and adjustment.

Important: this VOLspeed V4 is intended for compatible Bosch eBike System 2 generation motors. It is not compatible with Bosch Smart System. Please check your Bosch motor, display and system generation carefully before ordering.

VOLspeed V4 Bosch Compatibility

Not Compatible With Bosch Smart System

This VOLspeed V4 is not compatible with Bosch Smart System e-bikes.

If your e-bike uses components such as the following, you most likely have a Bosch Smart System and need a different VOLspeed tuning module:

Adjustable Assistance Limit from 25 to 45 km/h

Unlike simple tuning modules that only remove the original 25 km/h assistance limit, the VOLspeed V4 allows the rider to select an individual motor assistance limit between 25 and 45 km/h.

This means the assistance limit can, for example, be set to 30, 32, 35 or 40 km/h instead of always using the maximum available setting.

The selected setting is stored by the module. Tuning can be activated or deactivated using the existing Bosch handlebar controls.

VOLspeed Dynamic Mode

The Dynamic Mode is designed to provide a smoother riding experience when approaching the configured motor assistance limit.

Instead of motor support ending abruptly at the selected speed, assistance can be reduced progressively. This provides a more natural transition around the speed limit, especially on Bosch Performance Line and Performance Line CX powered e-bikes.

Individual Motor Assistance Settings

The VOLspeed V4 also provides an alternative operating mode that allows the assistance characteristics of compatible Bosch support modes to be individually adjusted.

Depending on the Bosch motor and system configuration, this can include modes such as:

• TURBO
• eMTB / SPORT
• TOUR
• ECO

The original Bosch assistance configuration remains available, allowing the rider to switch between the standard Bosch settings and individually configured assistance behaviour.

Please note: some VOLspeed functions may be limited when used with COBI.Bike or SmartphoneHub systems.

VOLspeed V4 Installation

The VOLspeed V4 tuning module is installed directly at the Bosch drive unit underneath the motor cover.

The module connects to the existing Bosch motor wiring, so the original cables do not normally need to be cut or permanently modified.

Depending on the bicycle and Bosch motor configuration, installation may require removal of the motor cover and crank arm. Suitable bicycle tools may therefore be required.

The VOLspeed electronics are encapsulated to protect the module against moisture and environmental exposure.

How to Check Compatibility Before Ordering

Before ordering the VOLspeed V4, please check the following:

• Your e-bike has a compatible Bosch Active Line, Active Line Plus, Performance Line or Performance Line CX motor.
• Your Bosch drive system is from model year 2014 or later.
• Your bicycle uses the older Bosch eBike System / BES2.
• Your bicycle does not use Bosch Smart System / BES3.
• Your e-bike was originally designed with motor assistance up to 25 km/h.
• Your display and handlebar controls are compatible with the VOLspeed V4.
• Your bicycle is not equipped with an incompatible electronic drivetrain system.

Do not choose the tuning module only by the Bosch motor name. Bosch has produced motors with similar names across different system generations. For example, newer Performance Line CX motors may belong to the Bosch Smart System and require a different VOLspeed module.

Software Update Notice

Future Bosch firmware or drive-system software updates may affect the compatibility of tuning modules.

We recommend checking current VOLspeed compatibility information before performing Bosch software updates on an e-bike equipped with a tuning module.

Legal and Safety Information

Important: increasing or removing the factory motor assistance speed limit may change the legal classification of your e-bike.

Use of a tuned e-bike on public roads may not be permitted under applicable local laws. Depending on the country, use may be restricted to private property, closed courses, test areas or competition use.

The rider is responsible for checking and complying with local laws and regulations before installing and using the tuning module.

Higher riding speeds can also increase loads on the bicycle's brakes, drivetrain, wheels, tyres and frame. Make sure the bicycle is in suitable technical condition for the intended use.
